audio not imported
PLEASE HELP! Using sony camcorder dcr-dvd203e and Vegas Platinum 9, I have successfully imported video clips from a finalized miniDVD disk to project media, but no AUDIO is present. Oddly, when i explore the folder where the clips are saved (with .mpg extension), the files open with windows media player WITH AUDIO. Dragging these files directly to the timeline does not resolve the issue – seems like audio is dropped put in the process. I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

How are you importing the media? Are you using File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc? This is the only way it will work. Just dropping the file onto the timeline will probably not work because the audio is in AC3 format and Sony has a problem importing AC3 unless you go through the import dvd camcorder disc and only add the files to the timeline from the Project Media pool.

This is exactly how i imported the clips. File/import media from DVD camcorder after which the video files showed up in the media pool. From there, i dragged them to timeline.

You did everything correctly and that should have worked. I would contact Sony Tech support. Maybe there is something unique about the stream from your particular camera that they don’t support or it’s a bug in Movie Studio Platinum 9?

I have the same problem and i hate it…i was really excited to got Sony Vegas…now i’m really desapointed…i haven’t edited anything on it yet because of this problem.

My only advice is that if you want to edit your videos you should not be using a camera that records to DVD. These cameras are for people who just want to ‘shoot-n-watch’. The MPEG2 files they record are already highly compressed and really don’t stand up well to editing and more compression. I know it’s not what you want to hear but you really should start with a camera that shoots higher quality video if you want to edit and re-author to DVD.
