  Settings for Viddyou

  I record on a Sony Hard Drive Camera, when I try to upload the raw files it needs interlaced, so I have been trying to learn how to do that.

  What would be the best settings to use to render a video to upload to viddyou.com. They claim they can handle high quality and high bit rate videos, so I am wanting the best quality settings I can get. I am a beginner, so please help me out here!

  You should render your files as MP4 using the MainConcept AVC/AAC encoder. It looks like viddyou restricts you to 640×480 unless you purchase a premium account for HD. Of course, you would need an HD camera as well.

  I don’t have that program and it appears it cost over $500. I do have Sony Vegas 8 and a couple other editing programs. The files are MPG-2 and I have uploaded a couple and they all have the squiggly lines, Viddyou told me I need to deinterlace before I upload, and there are ways out there to do that without losing quality.

  Do I really need to drop another $500 on a program to do this?

  No, sorry you misinterpreted my post. The MainConcept encoder is built into Sony Vegas Pro 8. This is done from within Vegas:

  1. Select File | Render As…
  2. Change the Save as type to MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4)
  3. Select the Template: Apple iPod 640×480 Video
  4. Press Save

  I have bought the premium account so I can upload larger files, so that is not a issue. I have a Sony Sr-220 Hard drive camera and was uploading to Brightcove, and the uploader did the deinterlacing for me. All I did was video and upload and it would look perfect. So having to go through all this process is new to me.

  Any more suggestions?

  I agree the WMV looks nice and smooth. The default deinterlace option in Vegas is Blend Fields which is good for low motion. You might want to change that in your project properties to Interpolate Fields which is better for high motion and see if it gives you a better results.
