I have just purchased Vegas 9. AVCHD playback is stepping in the preview window. MPEG2 plays fine. I have a 2.0 MHz single core AMD CPU. Would a dual core play back AVCHD fine and if so, what speed should I look at? I have 1GB of dual channel ram (512 each stick).

    Thanks

Dual Core will improve playback. Quad Core plays almost smooth at best setting and smooth at other settings. I have an Intel Q6600 quad 2.4Ghz. I would recommand it.

    Thanks John,

I’m stuck with an AMD 939 socket on the motherboard, so I’m looking at maybe replacing my 2.0 single core with a 2.2-2.4 dual. Hopefully that will be enough, but I’d hate to waste the $$$. I guess upgrading is a way of life.

I guess a work around would be to downconvert the AVCHD.
