Hi, I have been reading several posts regarding the posted topic, but I still have some doubts and hope someone con help…
    Regarding RAM:
-motherboard´s now can use ddr2 or ddr3: what ram increases performance for editing: ddr2 or ddr3?
-i have seen that ddr3 has higher latencies than ddr2: does it affect performance while editing?
-how much ram could eat up sony vegas 8 for editing in real time 30 minutes ACVHD in 32bit OS? and in 64bit OS?
    Regarding CPU:
-if i decide tu use a cpu quad core, do I really get a benefit from it compared to a dual core? how much do I increase the performance chosing a quad core (basically I am looking for previewing in real time on my timeline transitions and effects; rendering longer is not really an issue for me)?
    – do I get an increase in performance using a quad extreme, like qx9650 with actual Vegas 8.1? I mean if anyone has tested it using 64bit sony vegas 8.1?

I will wait for your answers to decide wether I should buy:
    – Vegas 8.1 ?
    – ddr2 or ddr3 modules?
    – a high end CPU like the quad QX9650?

Maybe I can go for a less expensive cpu and match the performance the editing software Vegas can offer nowadays.

Thx in advance for your comments.

Hi odd magne nilsen! thx for your replay.

Actually I was looking for a more in-depth analysis of my questions. The same kind of analysis that you can find about new hardware for desktop with a side-by-side comparison of the different cpu´s and ram available focused on performance while editing for example AVCHD. I just cannot find anything on the web.

The https://www.videoguys.com/DIY6.html only give me an idea about it, but do not go into detail as I expected. For example: they tell you they have tried the new ddr3 ram sticks and that they are fast. But how fast? and compared to what (ddr2)? They also say that they recommend to use 4GB of ddr3, but priced at 150$ the pair of sticks, and assuming you have a maximum of 4 slots in your motherboard, you would end up with a max. of 4GB for 300$…is not better to pay the same $ for 16GB (4GBx4) ddr2 pc2-6400 with CAS5 (note ddr3 is CAS8, which means is slower to respond to the cpu-chipset)?

    Important for me is:
-should I get the top cpu qx9650 for increasing performance while editing in vegas?
-should I also get 16GB ram for increasing performance while editing in vegas?
-what is better of both options for real-time-editing?
