Playing a rendered HD movie
I have a Sony HDR-HC3 camera and I imported the footage onto my computer’s HD. I edited in Vegas Pro 8.0 and rendered the footage using the HDV 1080-60I Intermediate template which uses the Cineform HDV codec. I currently don’t have the proper codec installed to play the video back on my computer and I was wondering how I can get it?

You might try installing Media Player Classic.

I would not render final output to Cineform. It’s an intermediary codec which, as you have seen, requires the CineForm codec to be installed on any computer you wish to play the file on. Use one of the MPEG-2 templates instead.

Its a an intermediate codec (not for finishing).
However if you are gonna save your files in the cineform format
for playback viewing….you can download their free player for
a little smoother playback.Steve Rhoden

I did not realize I could save a High Def project into the Mpeg-2 format until I played around with it yesterday. Thanks for the help!!!
Two more question…
If the files created from pulling footage onto my HD from my Sony camera in m2t format does that mean the native format is Mpeg-2?
Is that the format for creating Blue-Ray Discs?

Yes, your camera shoots HDV MPEG-2 and Blu-ray discs use HDV MPEG-2 so a good strategy would be to keep your footage in the native format it was shot at for minimum loss of quality. Vegas Pro 8.0 will smart render MPEG-2 so where you don’t make any changes it will simply copy the input frames to the output file without any loss or recompression.

Cineform files are difficult for most computers to play back and are designed for use in further ediding. You can leave it as .m2t format and play with VLC a free player. Danny Hays
