Deleting previous event?
Posted by John Perez on August 23, 2008 at 5:42 pmI know how to set preference for deleiting next event after a cut, but can I make it so that the previous event is high-lighted to be deleted?

Not sure I understand what you’re saying but, if you select (highlight) a clip and hit the ‘S’ key the event will split. The split part to the right will be highlighted. Then if you’re cutting a part out of the middle, you move your curser to the right and split again. Doing it this way, you’d have to re-click the split part to highlight it. Splitting the end of your cut first then going back to the left and splitting the left side leaves the cut clip highlighter and ready to delete.
You shoud probably turn on your Auto Ripple (Ctrl+L) and in the drop down box select the type of Auto Ripple so when you delete the clip everything moves to the left to close the gap.
Is this what you’re talking about?

November 29, 2008 at 4:36 amI am new to Vegas. One way I love to edit a long clip (another editor) is to place the long clip on the timeline, play it till I get to an area I like, split the event, ripple delete the prior section (that I didn’t want) continue tp play the timeline till I got to the end of that good section, split it again, then play till I found a new area I wanted, split it again and ripple delete the previous event – and continue on till I had all the good events one after another (with all the useless events deleted out).
I would do this using just the keyboard – and it was a very fast edit – an S(Split), spacebar to play, another S, a keystroke to delete the previous event with a ripple delete, spacebar to play (etc., etc.) to the end of the clip – and I had all my cuts.
I don’t want to switch back and forth between keyboard and mouse – I want to do it all from the keyboard.
What is the best way to accomplish this in Vegas ?

November 29, 2008 at 4:39 pmTo be clearer, what I want to accomplish is to delete the previous event from the cursor since I just made a split. and I want to do it from the keyboard, so I guess it’s time to either learn how to create a script or how to find one that does what I want it to do.
