    Hello,

    I’ve just recently started using Sony Vegas, and I’m having some real problems with one aspect; Walking onto the screen. I’m using it to make WarCraft Machinima, and so my characters walking onto the screen is a big deal, and it just doesn’t look right. Here’s a link to an example (This isn’t my video, it’s just the closest I could find to my issue).

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bj3sQKV1BA

    At the very beginning, how he seems to walk onto the screen from thin air is how it looks for me, and it’s VERY tacky. I want it to look like what the guy is doing at 16 seconds in or so, coming from offscreen onto the background.

    Any help would be appreaciated, thanks,

    ~~~Will
    My feeling is that, in the beginning, there’s no “ground” for the character to be walking on which is why it looks strange.
    In the 2nd instance, he’s walking along the bottom of the screen so your brain says “there’s a surface for his feet so this is OK”.
    Put something for the feet to walk on and it’ll look a lot better.
    Like I said, this isn’t my video, for my video there WILL be ground that they walk on. That’s not the issue. The issue is, at the beginning of the SAMPLE video, he walks out of thin air from the right side of the screen, about an inch away from true far right. At 16 seconds in or so, he walks from offscreen, all the way to the right. I want to know how to do that, because my problem is my characters on screen are walking from an inch to the right as in the beginning of the sample.
    Hope that’s more clear.
    Sorry for the misunderstanding.
    My first guess is that, for whatever reason, there’s a mask of some kind at the beginning that is cutting off a portion of the right side.
    Another guess is that, if you’re using 640 x 480 as the screen size for your character anim but dropping it onto a 720 x 480 Vegas project, I’d expect to see an issue like you’re describing.
    I know nothing about WarCraft Machinima so this is just a stab in the dark.
    Click the Pan/crop icon on the clip on the timeline. In the drop down field at the top of the window select 4:3 standard TV aspect ratio. I believe the fix for your problem is in the pan/crop window.
    Yes, my characters animation is smaller than the background. I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do about that, it’s the only size availible. Is there any way around it?
    Okay, I got it sorted. The character now walks from the FAR right onto the screen. All set except for one thing…When I render it automatically adds black bars to both sides of the video, so my character is walking OVER the black bars, then onto the screen, and I can’t seem to tell it not to add the black bars. I want it to just leave it how it looks on the preview monitor, which is perfect…
    When you render, check the box in the “render as” window that says “stretch video to fill output frame size” this should take care of the black bars. Hope this helps.
