someone help me, i got a problem
The problem is that i cannot import files without there being a problem. I have ffdshow if you’re wondering.
Now, here we go.
Basically, when i try to import video files, i get many different problems (well 3), Audio files are perfectly normal, they’re only in wma, mp3 or wav for me.
Well, here they are
AVI – No video and audio detected
DivX AVI – Incompatible fileMPEG
1-Video only
2-SameMP4 – Unsupported
h/x.264 – sameFLV – Unsupported (even with ffdshow)
Does anybody have any useful words. I have got a god laptop. If i need to break out the recovery cd’s i will gladly do so.

Nothing will edit FLV files so forget it. It is an output only format. It looks like you are taking a bunch of other output files that you found on the web and are trying to re-edit them. Vegas is not going to do a good job with these files. they are in highly compressed formats that make them very difficult to edit.
My recommendation would be to re-encode these files into something Vegas can edit easily. Use a free convertion utility like Super (c) and output them to AVI using the Huffyuv or similar lossless codec. This will make them compatible with Vegas and save you a lot of headaches.

Well, i have Vegas 7, the most recent one ( think it’s 7.0e)
I’m not trying to import flv primarily, it’s just that i want mpg’s and avi’s to work.
I get them on youtube, through VDownloader.
I try re-converting them and it doesn’t work.
Although it used to import files through it used to import it perfectly all the time before.

Nothing you get off You Tube will work in Vegas directly. By the way, the latest Vegas is version 8 Pro.
I use Replay to grab the videos and then Moyea to convert them to an AVI file. Then I can bring them into Vegas for editing.
However you really need to be careful in the conversion. Most of You Tube’s videos are not of the greatest quality. Also they’re 320 x 240. Normal Video that you do in Vegas if it’s SD is 720 x 480. If you blow up a 320 video to 720 you’re going to get a really bad video. I’ve tried that.
what I had to do in a few instances was to make my Vegas project to the original flash size, so when it was done and rendered to DVD, the picture on my TV was small but a blttle bit better in quality.
Some of the other videos you mentioned are cell phone size, even smaller than 320 x 240.

It seems that the Super C site puts you into a loop and you can’t actually download the program. I’ve spent almost an hour there trying to figure out how and where to DL that program. Unless it’s my connection!

Allen, You’ve got to really want it bad enough. 😉
I have no proof of this but it may be intentional to drive pages hits on the site. Notice they have a lot of advertising on the site and I’m guessing they get paid by the page hit so driving customers around in circles probably makes them more money.
It takes three pages to get to it. On the first page, the link to the second page is at the bottom. On the second page this link to the third page is on the top. On the third page, the link to the actual download is again at the bottom.
I will not post a direct link because I assume if they wanted it to be easy they would have posed a big download button on their site, but I will tell you that the link is on the bottom of this page.
Hint: Search for “Download SUPER © setup file”

Right, lemme sum up what i would like. I do not need a converter for youtube, i have three different ones, all of which worked on my friends comuter when imported into vegas (on his computer)

When played in ANY media player, both of those work fine, in terms of audio and video.
On my laptop, they used to work before, ok?
so what i want to know is the problem with the program, not being told different converters?
Essentially, i would think that it is something to do with being able to get video codecs, or something, so pointing me in the right direction to finding out any way of setting up codec options would be fine.

If you want to try and resolve the codec issue, then get a copy of GSpot and open the files with it and see what codecs they use. GSpot will also tell you if the codec is installed on your system. Then just go get the codecs that you don’t have and install them. If Vegas still doesn’t open them then you are stuck since you refuse to recode them into a format that Vegas can edit. Good luck.

Just because something works on a friend’s computer never assume it will work on your computer. He may have different codecs than you do. AVI is not just AVI and MPEG isn’t just Mpeg. It may be a DivX-AVI or a jmpeg. Get Gspot and it will tell you like was said above.Google it!
