Does your Vegas 8 crash when you add 10 video tracks compositing mode set to 3D Alpha or it’s just me?

No. I can composite 10 tracks with 3D Source Alpha without any problems. Maybe it has to do with what is on those tracks and how much resources they take up? 10 tracks of 8 megapixel still images might be a problem.

Ditto. Just quickly tossed 30 tracks of DV up, all in 3D mode and various mask modes to see if this caused a crash. No problem here.
As John mentioned, what’s the source content? how fast is your disk throughput?
    RAM? Other apps running? Antivirus?

i found that if i use very high resolution stills, Vegas 8 will crash every time. and i’m using a quad core q9300 with 4 gigs of ram. try lowering the pix resolution on the stills, then test render a section.

    Hi Charles,

    What’s your pixal size?
No larger than 1440 X 960 (for NTSC standard def).

1440 X 960 (for NTSC standard def). doesn’t sound too large. That’s about what I lowered mine down to in a hi-def production. What format stills are you using?

Try changing (lowering the res. and change the file type) for one five second section and see if it renders. Also, I found that having unused video tracks in my project also crashed V8.

    Have you tried rendering it?

When I preview the timeline in Good or Best mode, Vegas goes ‘Not Responding’

It works OK in Preview mode.

Source content is just simple clip events from Media Generator.
I insert a solid color video event into a new project(PAL DV), set mode to 3D Alpha and duplicate it 9-10 times and my Vegas goes “Not Responding”.

When previewing, this happens only when my preview monitor mode is in “Good” or “Best” mode.

When rendering to disk, it never renders.

My system is P4 3.2 Ghz, 1GB ram, WinXP sp3, WD 7200 rpm HD.

I think it’s not related to video resolution.
I can lock up my Vegas with a PAL DV(720*586) project with 9 tracks of Media Generator’s solid colors.

Try previewing or rendering to disk using Good or Best quality.
