Can Vegas Pro 8 Capture live video from camera?

Camera (Canon xh-a1) > Firewire > Computer (Using vegas capture)

If so. What’s the settings to make it happen?

    Thanks,
    August

Yea I’ve done this. I just turn on my camera, start the capture utility and press the record button in the capture transport. Does this not work for you?

    John, thanks for the response.

    No it does not work.

    Message states:

The device Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit device could not be opened.
Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application user.

    Any suggestions?

Try capturing a tape first to make sure that your capture is working properly. I can’t imagine that Vegas would know the difference between a tape playing and video coming through live unless your camera is not sending live video out the firewire port? Maybe there is an option that needs to be set on your camera? I’ve got all Sony cameras and I see you have a Cannon so it might not work the same but Vegas is capable of capturing live if your camera cooperates. I’ve done it.

John R and John K, Thanks to you both.

With your help I finally figured it out. You must select the proper capture utility, ie, Standard DV or HDV. I was trying to capture live HDV with the Standard DV utility. It all seems to work now.
    Thanks gentlemen.

That would only work if August was using a DV camera. The Canon XH-A1 is HDV and so I assume that the HDV capture tool is being used which doesn’t have this option.
