proxy files no build/audio does not follow into trimmed clip
i designate the clip area and when it creates the new clip there is no audio. probably simple, but i am unfamiliar with the software. the audio track says media offline when i open the new clip into the trimmer or timeline. i select loop region, and then chose create new clip. it creates a new clip without the audio. vegas was telling me that it failed to build proxy files but i cannot seem to reproduce when it was saying that.

It’s hard to follow what you are doing. Can you give us more details and step-by-step procedure? What version of Vegas? What is the source of the media (a DV camera? HD camera? the web? etc.) What format is the media (AVI, MPG, MOV, ???) What codec does it use? What exact steps are you using?
My guess would be that the media contains audio in a format that Vegas doesn’t support.

-vegas 7.0c.
-panasonic hd10a hd camera output at 480 thru firewire into lenovo laptop model 0769. captured with windows movie maker.
-avi format.
-don’t know what codex or how to determine.—process…
-i recorded audio performance and wish to break it up into songs to put up on youtube for starters.
-new project.
-open avi in trimmer.
-place markers at beginning and end of song.
-in media manager, i right click on the avi and add to project list.
-in project media, i open avi in trimmer.
-there are markers already at the beggining and end of the first song from previous attempts. i am not sure why the markers seem to remain in/on the original avi.
-the first song is also marked as a region. so i right click it and choose region. then vegas tells me:
‘An error occurred while creating a proxy file for a stream.
An unexpected error has occurred.’
it only gives me an option to click ‘ok’ then. no details, etc.
-it does create the clip but the audio is not present anymore.thank you for your attention.

I could not find any information on a Panasonic HD10a HD camera so I don’t know what format it records to (HDV, AVCHD, ?). I would try dropping the video directly onto the Vegas timeline and see if any audio shows up (bypass the whole trimmer thing). I’m guessing that Vegas doesn’t like something about how Windows Movie Maker captured the video. If dropping it on the timeline doesn’t produce audio then I would try capturing the video in Vegas.

the audio does follow from the original avi to the timeline no problem. my bad, the camera is a hv10a. i believe it records in hdv. then it down grades the signal to 480. stumped. i even went to the site and downloaded vegas7.0e

Then either don’t use the trimmer (i never do) or contact Sony Tech Support and report that the trimmer isn’t working properly. Once again, I would try capturing with Vegas because there could be something in the way the file was captured that is causing the problem.
