Question, my son in-law is having problems capturing HD with his Vegas 8 Pro. I don’t seem to be having this problem. He said it crashes when he captures, and the times that it has captured and he tried to drag and drop clip into timeline it crashed. He has downloaded the file that Sony put out to help this problem, and doesn’t seem to cure his problem. What I am wondering is, I currently have a 5 camera edit going on right now, and am ready to assign the camera switches now with Excalibur 5.5. He wants to try hooking up his camera to my system and see if my program crashes. Is this possible, and could it screw up my program, and project currently under editing.

While hooking his camera up to your PC shouldn’t mess anything up… why tempt fate? Personally, I would not try anything like this in the middle of a project. I’ve seen plenty of things happen to a PC that shouldn’t happen but they do. I wouldn’t chance it.

Also, do you have a complete backup of your system? You should! I use Acronis TrueImage to do a full backup of my C: partition on the first of each month and an incremental back daily! These simply get stored on another physical hard drive. Then if any software messes up my PC, I can wipe it clean and go back to yesterday, or last week, or last month. I can’t stress enough how important backing up up is.

    Belinda,
I totally agree with John here….”He wants to try hooking up his camera to my system and see if my program crashes
NO, i would not advise you to do that. Not while you are in the midst of your work.
Try capturing using an external capture utility for the time being,
and see if things behaves differently.
