Rendering Problem Videos Dark…
I was trying to make a guide for my friend, on how to use a program. I recorded my screen with Camtasia Studio. It saved it as an .AVI and when I opened it with windows media player it was good, but i tried editing it with Sony Vegas 8. I just added music, and rendered the video. The comparison was ugly. The rendered video was much much Darks and poorer quality then the camtasia. I rendered as AVI best quality. I tried different file formats like WMV and MP4. It still shows the same result. My friend doesn’t seem to have this problem he does exacly what i do and nothing happens. I tried reinstalling my OS and still same thing. Any Ideas? Please Help.

simple issues as what you are having does not require such
drastic measures for you to take. Reinstalling your OS would’nt
solve such an issue.
Tell me quickly..when you place the camtasia avi on the timeline
and play it, does it look ok in the preview monitor before you render?(Have you tried rendering to normal avi using the ‘ntsc dv’ template)?

Yes the video appears in the preview and it is good color perfect not dark nor light. When i render i tried using the NTSC DV still samething.

I did notice though when i used the default uncompressed template for avi the colors were perfect not dark or light, the video was like in slow motion and the file size was huge like a 40secs of video 331mb. Every other compression makes it dark.

I am not familiar with camtasia studio, but try outputting the video
in another format from camtasia…then place in vegas without adding anything or altering the render settings (use avi-ntsc dv)….
and see if the results remain the same.Steve Rhoden

On record it only saves as avi. but i tried reformatting the video in like mpg or wmv still all colors become dark while the video is good on preview.

I hade a somewhat similar problem: exported from Camtasia as 1080 mp4 and imported that to Vegas 13. On the Vegas timeline it was darker from the start. As I had no time then, I just used a filter to brigten those clips and get the job done.
Now I came back to this problem and found a solution. When you export from Camtasia, use the custom export preset – create your own. Choose avi as the export format, then click Next, then on the next dialog click on the Compression button and choose uncompressed. I left all other settings intact and exported, then imported into Vegas, then created several seconds of solid white (Media Generator in Vegas) and compared the two clips, played one after another. No difference in white.
Guess this did the job in my case, hopefully it’ll do in yours.
