vegas detecting sr-11
I have Sony Vegas Platinum 8.0d and a Sony HDR sr-11 camcorder. Vegas cannot see the camera to capture video. Windows sees the camera. I also tried to get vegas to see previously downloaded files and it won’t detect them either. It is a high def hard drive camcorder, recording in ASCHD. Any thoughts?

I am unsure if the platinum version is capable of dealing with AVCHD files currently. I know that Vegas pro can. Download the trial of pro8 and see if it recognizes the files that you currently have on your machine from your camera. It is a free 30 day trial.
About the issue of it not seeing the camera, apparently it used to correct- as you stated that you had previously downloaded files on your system. What has changed between then and now? You should be able to just copy the files over to your hard drive from the camera nd drag them into Vegas. You do not want Vegas to edit of your cameras hard drive.

In the user manual it states that it can work with high def files. The camera is not even detected by vegas which seems a little strange since they are both Sony corp.

I think (but could be wrong) that it is limited to M2T files. That is why I recommended utilizing Vegas pro 8’s 30 day free trial to see if my assumption is correct.

I cannot get it to read the m2t files, I have to convert it to mpeg2 files. I will try the pro version.
You would figure that Sony would support their own high def files like it says. Also the sr-11 camera ( and the sr-12, their “highend” camcorders ) do not have firewire ports, only usb2. Vegas says usb transfer is not supported only firewire! go figure. I hope Sony can fix this. -

Firewire-tapebased transfer.
USB-File-based transferThere is no need to use, (nor for anyone to pay a license fee for) a firewire port on a file-based camcorder. There no capture, it’s an Xfer, so the stability and speed of firewire aren’t needed.SR11 doesn’t create M2t files, it creates MTS files. SR11 is AVCHD. Platinum and pro versions of Vegas support AVCHD.

Thanks for the reply. I do have Platinum 8.0d. I copied the hard drive AVCHD folder to the hard drive of my computer. I used the Vegas software on the project media tab and the import button to point the software to the AVCHD folder and the files in it. I got an MTS “file not supported” error. Am I missing a step? Do I need to convert something. It works when I convert the file to mpeg2. I would like to keep my movie hi-def. I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestion? There are three folders in the AVCHD folder from my camcorders hard drive. One is streaming and I cant remember the other two ( I’m on a different computer ).
