How to set the Project Properties
Hi guys. I’m using Sony Vegas 8 in editing my .m2t video files from my HDR-SR7 Camcorder.
I have a question about the Project properties!
I just want to know what these terms mean:
_ Progressive Scan
_ UpperLower Field first
_Pixel aspect ratio
_Out put rotation
_Motion blur type
_Deinterlace methodAnd which option I should use for each one..!!
Any help is highly appreciated

One thing you can always do is go to File – Properties, click on the little folder icon to the right of the template (tool tip is “Match Media Settings”), pick the file you captured, and then it will match your project settings to the file you captured from your camera.
As for what the various settings mean, click on the “?” on the properties title bar and then click on any field. I did this with the “field order” field and it opened the help file for the File – Properties. Clicking on “Video” (since I was looking at the video tab) tells you what all of those various settings do.

I use m2t files and use the HDV 1440 x 1080 29.97, then select progressive scan if the final video will be watched on a non crt TV. Do you ever see what looks like a comb edge on fast moving video? The progressive setting will fix that. Also if you plan on rendering the files more than once or do any chromakey work, I would render each m2t file to Cineform avi. This format is much more efficient than m2t and can handle several renders. If your computer is fast and your not rendering more than to the final format, m2t files can work fine with the newer versions of Vegas like 7 or 8. Danny

Probably using the “Match Media Setting” is a good option for me.But one more thing. When I open the File-Properties there is no “?” tab in the window. I can’t click on “?” while the Properties window are opened!!
Is there a different path to this??

Do you happen to know what “Upper field first” and “lower field first” suppose to mean??
They’re the options that I get below the Progressive Scan! -
If your original footage was dv (standard definition) it will more than likely be lower field first. If it is HDV, it will more than likely be upper field first. I don’t know what you are wanting to do, but I would normally leave that set to whatever your footage is (Vegas usually figures this out correctly on its own). These are interlace settings.
Basically if you are using interlaced footage and not progressive, you have “A” that makes up half of your image and “B” that makes up half of your image. When they are put together they make a complete image (progressive). The human eye/brain is not quick enough to detect that only half the image is displayed every other frame so all is well when it is played back at normal speed.

The “?” is on the TITLE BAR left of the red “X”. It’s not a separate tab.

Jeremey is right if your wathching the final on a crt tv but I can easily see the interrlacing on a lcd, especially if there’s some fast moving parts. Try all 3 settings and see which you like the best. Danny
