  • Audio glitches on left channel in nesting project

I’ve been working on a feature-length HDV project in Vegas 7. The master project contains about 30-40 nested projects. I was editing this project on my old PC for over a year.

I just got a new top-of-the-line PC, and installed trial version of Vegas 8. I moved all the project data to the new computer. Everything is great, except that when new sfap0 proxy files are generated for the nested projects, they have occasional glitches, only in the left channel. Their frequency and location changes from one render to another – they seem totally random. There can be once every few seconds, or once every few minutes.

If I render the projects individually, the audio is fine. This seems to only be associated with rendering the proxy file for the nested project.

The glitch is visible as a long peak line extending all the way to the bottom of the waveform. It sounds like either a short bassy crackle, or a loud metallic screech.

I then installed Vegas 7 on the new PC. Same problem :-/

It’s been driving me nuts. This is the only thing that’s preventing me from rendering the project. I hardly have any software on the new PC. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

My new PC has Vista, my old PC had XP, in case that’s a factor.

    Thanks in advance.

quick update – apparently, this is NOT related to nested projects. I rendered the audio from inside a project, and it had the same glitch in the left channel. I tried different formats (wav, aiff) and it was in every instance (always at random places).

The only way I could render it for test purposes without the glitch was multiple mono aiff streams. The left-audio channel was clean. not sure what that means…

I can say that I’ve never personally noticed this on any of my systems.
