I’m using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6.0 My Cannon digital still camera shoots its video in avi. format. I’m trying to insert this avi file into my Vegas. The audio shows up on the timelime but no video appears. Can I NOT use avi. format? How would I accomplish using these avi files??

Which codec is used to make this avi file? If you don’t know, you can always check with GSpot:

I guarantee that it’s using an MJPEG codec (I’ve got a Canon digital still camera as well).
Do a search on this forum as this topic has come up before and links to free ones have been provided.

This is a good reason to upgrade to 8, Version 8 includes an MJPEG reader. Try the demo.

My old still digital Sony camera took video in MPG format and that dragged into my Sony Vegas 6 just fine. OK, not knowing too much about this, I followed your advise and used GSpot to check. The codec is MJPG. Now what?

True, but I don’t use it all that much so in the mean time, how do I handle this situation? Any way??
    Thanks,

It is MJPG, as you said and I did a search about what do do about this problem. I’m not finding anything. How help what I can do or how do use this avi in Vegas 6.0 ?
    Thanks,

Google MJPEG codec and you’ll get several hits for free versions of the required codec.
Download one of them, install it and you’re done.

    Either:
Download the Sony trial for VMS 8
    or
Download a free MJPEG codec reader from numerous websites. The Vegas FAQ lists a couple, but there are several.

OK,cool. I’ll do that. That reader gets downloaded and installed on the main C drive of the computer or somewhere in Vegas??
    Thanks,
