  red logo

  The logo is red. It looks fine while I’m moving it into place. But when it comes to rest, the edges blur.

  I’ve applied the Broadcast Safe filter, and it still has blurry edges.

  Inside After Effects, it previews beautifully. But the NTSC Quicktime file shows the blur, even when I apply Gaussian or Directional Blur, Unsharp Mask, change the brightness and saturation, or add the Broadcast Filter. I’ve also tried slight repositioning and resizing.

  All the other elements (in off-white type) look sharp. I’ve tried both frame and field rendering.

  Any ideas?

  Do you have motion blur turned on? Is there a camera move involved? What does your background look like? Any of these things could make the logo look soft. Also, do you have any subtle effects on it that might not show up so much when its moving, but become clearer when it’s still?

  outta sight (or beyond the 100% ring) on the red.

  When I change the logo’s color to yellow it looks perfectly clean. But with red (even if I cheat the color somewhat), the solid regions tend to moiré.

  The background is an animation in various shades of very deep red; the logo is static at the point that you notice the moiré.

  The best solution I’ve come up with is to reduce saturation, darken, and use visual psychology to make the logo seem brighter by darkening the background.
