WMV9 Green Screen Export
My clients want a WMV9 of an interview I shot using green screen. They asked me to key out the green, and they want to add the additional graphics behind the subject themselves.
Can an WMV9 carry the transparency? and what do I have to do to accomplish this?
On my media properies -what alpha channel setting do I use?

they want you to key out the green screen, and replace it with what?
why can’t they simply do their own keying – unless their the usual mba’s in marketing who talk the talk but stumble on their first walk.
and to do this in wmv9?
i’m aghast! but it doesn’t take much nowadays to make my jaw drop…

WMV can’t carry the transparency. 32bit file (uncompressed) required. You could export a PNG sequence for them, or a TGA sequence for them.

my clients have never keyed greenscreen but want to add their own flash material behind and overtop. this request is a first for me as well.Can vegas export the png’s or tga’s??

ah, douglas has a technically correct and practical answer as usual. however, if your client is asking for a wmv 9, and doesn’t know that it wont carry a transparency chanel, i hate to think what they’d do with either a tga or png stream and separate audio!
no offence meant douglas, but i needed to vent at ‘knowledge’ clients, ie, ie sort terry appears to have been dealing with.

sorry to burst your bubble leslie-but no. they’re just rookies when it comes to working with video -that’s it. they’re good clients.
i’ll see if they can handle a png sequence and see if I can figure out how to create one.

that’s what bubbles are for 😉
i really think that if they’re novices, you should clearly walk them through what you’re doing, and how they can put it all back together again, otherwise it could get very, very trying….

well done! but you should point out to them that wmv9 isn’t a good jumping off point to key from, then again, it’ll teach them a thing or two eh?

They’ve been researching and believe that WMV is the best format for what they’re doing in Swish. But ya they know that they will be learning a few things now.
I got a decent key using Vegas myself with the HDV files, but I’m not adding the backgrounds -so we’re all stuck here -hence why they’ll be attempting the key now.
It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out.
