I have FS-4HD hard drive recorder. I usually record camera firewire out with the tape running. I finally figured out how record on the FS-4HD without a tape in the camera. I tried it with a Sony V1 and aCanon HV20. It works with both. This is what you do.
Hook up the FS-4HD with firewire to the camera. “Put tape in will be blinking”. Now if just press the camera record button nothing will happen in the FS-4HD. But press the FS-4HD record booton once, the FS-4HD display will start blinking. Press FS-4HD record botton once more and the FS-4HD will start recording without the tape in the camera.
try it and let me know if there is an other way of doing it.
