Has anyone out there rendered anything from Vegas for BlipTv? If so any suggested settings would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

I have several accounts at Blip.TV and love the fact that they don’t re-encode the videos that I upload unlike YouTube. The result is a much higher quality video. I capture my SD footage in Vegas 8 Pro with project properties set to NTSCDV 720×480 29.97 fps. After editing I save it as 720.veg which can later be rendered and put on DVD. To prepare it for uploading to Blip.TV I do the following.

    In the project properties:
Change the width and height to 480×360, 29.97 fps
Change the field order to None (progressive scan)
Change the pixel aspect ratio to 1.000 (square)

I save this as 360.veg. You can then render it out as a mwv or mov file. I believe you can indicate in your Blip.TV account to leave it in the original format and not to re-encode it to flash.

But here’s what I found works for me. I render it out as an avi file with video format set to uncompressed and audio set to PCM Uncompressed and audio channels set to mono.
I have the Adobe flash CS3 video encoder so I then use the On2 VP6 encoder to render it to flash at 480×360, 29.97 fps. But I specify a max data rate of 350 kbps for the video and 64 kbps mono for the audio. This compresses it to a reasonable size and strikes a good balance between quality and a combined data rate of 400-450 kbps which easily makes the video play smoothly for nearly if not all DSL/cable connections.

I’d love to hear other opinions and suggestions for even better methods.

I’m with you for the most part, but a couple of questions.

“After editing I save it as 720.veg” “I save this as 360.veg.”
    What is a “720”.veg & a “360” veg?

“I have the Adobe flash CS3 video encoder so I then use the On2 VP6 encoder to render it to flash……”
Is the On2 VP6 part of Adobe Flash?
What would I need to get this or something comparable without getting cs3 (I’m on a pc)?

    Thanks

    Dave,
When you save a project in Vegas it’s given the extension .veg, I meant that I save the files with the frame size as part of the name (720 or 360..I actually meant to say 480) to help me recognize which frame size each project is.

On2VP6 is the newest and best codec for flash and is included in the Adobe CS3 Flash Encoder. I have the Adobe Premium Production Suite which includes this encoder. It also comes with Adobe CS3 Flash. I don’t think you can buy it separate.

You can buy other compression programs that have the codec. check out Sorenson Squeeze for Flash at
    https://www.sorensonmedia.com/store/?pageID=35#a2

or On2 Tecnologies Flix Pro at
    https://www.on2.com/index.php?365

Try out the demo downloads. These programs have the 2 pass feature for better compression that my Adobe flash encoder doesn’t have.

Jim, thanks for the info. I guess where I’m at now is that I don’t want to spend a bunch of money on this at least not right now. On the blipTV website they recommend using QuickTime Pro ($30) and they give a list of settings to use https: //blip.tv/learning/export/ (blip .tv is now inactive)
Obviously QuickTime Pro shouldn’t compare to a really expensive software/codec, but for $30 I wonder if it’s worth trying. Since you seem to be well versed in this area what are your thoughts?

    Thanks

    Dave,
Yes, I would recommend upgrading to Quicktime Pro and compressing with that for Blip.TV. It will be converted to flash once it’s there but you can choose to have the quicktime version play if it looks better. Here’s the info from their FAQs.

    16. Do you offer Flash video?
We most certainly do. Every video you upload is converted to Flash as soon as possible. Videos are converted on a roughly first-come, first-serve basis. Once your video has converted to Flash we will automatically present the Flash version to viewers on blip.tv as a convenience. You can change this behavior (and make us always display the native format first) by setting your Playback Preferences.

Let me know how it works and the link to your videos if you don’t mind sharing.

I have one personal collection at https://surferj45.blip.tv/

Should I render from Vegas(7) an .avi file and take that into Quicktime for the compressing? Is that the best format from Vegas for Quicktime to compress?

    Sorry for so many questions!!!

    Thanks

Yes but set video and audio for uncompressed. Read my initial response.
