  Sony Vegas Rendering Problem

  I have .avi video that I am trying to render to wmv. I got a trial version of Sony Vegas 8. When I render the video it only saves it as an audio file. I have tried several times. I tried to render to mp4 and got the same problem.

  Is there something else I need to render the files that I could be missing? I am a complete video noob and have no idea what could be wrong.

  .wmv format is an audio format. So, it’ll convert it to audio file when you render it as .wmv!

  but when you rendered it as mp4 you hear only sound if you play it in real one. Try different media player.

  I would suggest that you render it as mainConcept MPEG 2

  Actually, Windows Media Video (WMV) is a Video format.

  Windows Media Audio (WMA) is an audio-only format.

  Are you trying to customize the template? The trial *should* render to wmv just fine, but won’t render to MP4 as a trial format, because it’s an MPEG format that requires licensing (obtained when you purchase Vegas).

  wmv is short for Windows Media Video so it is indeed a video format.
  wma (Windows Media Audio) is the audio-only version of this.

  I have no idea why Carl isn’t getting any audio after rendering either of these formats as it should be there.

  Carl, how are you trying to listen to these files (i.e. what player are you using)?

  What kind of avi file are you using?
  Is it from a camcorder, a DVD, a digital still camera, etc.?

  Please tell us your exact render settings What’s in the “Save as type:” and “template:” boxes?

  I tried rendering it out in avi, wmv, mov and mpg format and it worked in every single one of them for me.
