ram for vegas hdv work
I am all ready using vegas 7 for editing in dv and beginning to use Hdv. how much ram can it use – not how little. I want it to run as fast and smooth as possible. Using a Pentium 4 3g gigahertz

Hi,
I think there’s no so much RAM that comes no handy, so my suggest is that use as much as you can afford, or your motherboard supports.This is my private opinion without digging for any “scientific” facts, so I may be wrong…

As things stand right now, XP (and, I think, Vista 32) can only support a bit over 3 GB of RAM.
I’m not sure abut I think the 64 bit version of Vista can handle a lot more. -
Here is some good reading on the subject.
Pay attention since 32bit Vista can handle more physical RAM than 32bit XP.If you want really large amounts of RAM you must go with

I’ve heard that there is no such thing as too much RAM. With P4, maximum RAM is needed to handle HDV with speed. Put as much as the motherboard can support. And, for as long as XP-sp2 works fine, stay away from Vista until absolutely necessary. Without the fastest latest hardware, Vista is very slow.

XP 64 will lets you install 4GB by default. I think there are some tweaks to jump it up to 8GB. MoBo must have support for it, too.
Vista takes the wraps off the max. It becomes how much money do you have.
I’m running 4GB. What a treat.
However, you need to set your preferences in Vegas as to how much to allocate for rendering.ken wood
