  DVD Architect tip for problematic .m2v files

  I want to share something I found out today that may be helpful to somebody sometime. If you have a .m2v file that you want to add to DVD Architect but it was encoded with Apple’s Compressor (or maybe other compressor, but that’s so far what I’ve tried), and you can add it to your DVD project fine and it doesn’t show any warnings, however when it’s preparing the build it stops showing a message about an error in the MPEG file, then you can use an old tool called ReStream to fix it.

  It’s a very basic program that doesn’t even need to be installed, it just runs from its own executable. To fix the problem file, load it in the program, go to the User Data area, check the checkmark, and choose remove from the drop down list. Then click on the Write button and wait for it to process. Note that this program doesn’t actually recompress the file, so there won’t be any added compression artifacts, it just changes parameters in it. The new file will have a .0 added to the end of the name.

  While this may not work for everybody it worked for me on three different videos. You can find ReStream at:

  i don´t speak english.I´ Argentina tengo problemas con los achivos.m2v en sony Vegas 7 y 9; no quiero que pierda calidad por eso
  no quiero transformarlo con otro programa; deseo saber si no hay algun codec para que el vegas me los abra.Si lo hay como puedo conseguirlo; la camara filma en 1.440 * 1080

  Alicia,

  Estas segura que el archivo es .m2v? Si es de una camara HDV deberia ser .m2t, y si es de una camara AVCHD que graba a 1440 deberia ser .mts. .m2v es una extension para un archivo de video sin el track de audio, que es normalmente el tipo de archivo que exportas para importar en un programa de autoria de DVD o BD como DVD Architect. Si me das mas detalles sobre tu camara, sobre todo que formato usa (HDV o AVCHD) te podre ayudar un poco mas.

  Thank you for posting this. It solved the same problem for me. I appreciate people like you who pro-actively post something they learned. That’s empathy!

  I feel fortunate to have found your post so I’ll add that the specific error message I experienced in DVDA 5.2 was:

  “Warning: An error occurred while writing a file. Invalid data was encountered when processing an MPEG File.”

  Now if I can just find an editable format suitable for using in both FCPX and SVP11!
