  We will soon be doing a 4 camera shoot of a nationally known music performer. The distributor wants to shoot in Digi-Deta which will force us to do a transfer or transcoding to edit in Vegas. To get the best quality should we transfer the footage to HDV (and if so, can this be done digitally or will it have to go to analog) or should we try to convince the distributor to shoot with XD Cam etc. and import directly. Does a Digi-Beta deck have a fire wire I/O? Since I can’t afford one , I’m not familiar with the deck.
  Since I think the distibutor will stay with Digi-Beta acquisition, what is the best way to get it into Vegas.

  The *best* way to get it into Vegas is to use an SDI card, cost you a couple hundred bucks. AJA Xena is the card I’d use.
  Otherwise, buy/rent a Convergent Design SD Connect box, it’ll convert the DB into a DV stream that can be sent over firewire.
  Transcoding the footage to HDV would be a mistake, both in loss of time and quality.
  XDCAM isn’t significantly better than DB, so if you do convince them to go to XDCAM, go XDCAM HD instead.
  XDCAM *is* current technology, and will Xfer to the computer more easily, and *is* a slightly better image than DB…
