When I attempt to set the resolution render setting at 1024×768 or higher I get the error “Vegas does not support output of frame sizes greater than 1440 (width) by 1080 (height). The template you selected has been removed from the template list.” I currently have the trial of vegas standard 8.0 – is it because I have the trial that it won’t let me render in high def?
Also, does vegas have a “razer” tool like premier does (something to cut media tracks)
    Thanks all!

Vegas uses a “SPLIT” (S key) in the same way Premiere has a razor tool.

To which codec are you attempting to render? Some codecs are very specific about frame sizes.
Vegas does render to frame sizes of up to 2K.
