I wish to edit HDV using Vegas Pro 8. My laptop is HP pavilion dv9535nr which has Intel Centrino Duo Core t5250 processor running at 1.5 mhz. I have 2 gig RAM and plenty of hard drive space. NVIDIA 8600M video card.

    Do I have enough horsepower?

    Thank you.

Recently I was at broadcast trade show demonstrating Vegas and the unit I was demoing on was an Intel based Quad Core QX6700 2.67GHz unit and basically this could run HDV with pic-in-pic HDV and maintain full frame rate. Start applying any CC or filters and the rate would drop. I think for HDV editing this would be about the minimum horsepower you would need to be able to edit HDV in any meaningful manner. I know I would be frustrated if a unit I was using had much less grunt than this box. DV, well that was a different story, the box screamed through DV like no tomorrow.

I have an Athlon X2 4200+ (2.2Ghz) overclocked to (3.0GHz), and GeForce 7600GT and Vegas bogs down both cores when applying effects. More than about 2-3 effects, and it won’t play in real-time, even if window is in “preview” mode. Very disappointing. Sony needs to get their developers to optimize these all the effects. Rendering multiple effects drops render speed down to about 3-5fps. Very slow.
