    Hi –

My V8 is not recognizing the associated audio files from my camcorders MPEG2 files. I can still open the files without issue in 7.0e and the video imports fine in 8, just no audio.

    I can successfully import .wmv’s and mp4’s in 8.

    Am i missing something?

    Thanks.

This would be strange…if 7 opens it, 8 should as well.
    Camcorder model?

I have 2 Sony DCR-SR80’s I’ve been using exclusively since 7.0 – I can play the files in Real and QT as well as V7.

I just opened a .veg session in 8 I had previously edited in 7 and got this error:

Media file D:\’07_06_21_04\M2U00101.MPG has changed enough that the media stream properties from the project file could not be applied. Default media stream properties were used.

A similar error for each mpg file. It proceeds to load the envelopes for the audio but no peaks and the video is not affected. The file location has not changed, and the session continues to open/work fine in 7.

I’ll have the hard copy tomorrow and re-install I guess, unless there is a solution.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi folks.

I just began using V8 and find myself in the same predicament – my camcorder MPEG-2 files play fine on the PC via Windows Media Player and in Roxio’s MyDVD NLE but V8 drops the associated audio. Have you been able to drag in other files successfully or do you have to first open them in V7 (which I do not have)? I’ll re-read the instructional tomb again and see if anything jumps out at me but it seems that if V7 did this without issue, then V8 has a bug.

    Note:
When I look at the properties, the file is a MainConcepts MPEG-2 and this does not seem to support an associated audio track. When I try to render projects as MC MPEG-2, the audio I add to any tracks is dropped from the output.

    Thanks.

I read recently (don’t remember which forum) the workaround was to rename the file extension to .vob – that has solved the issue for me, but the process should be unnecessary (and ironically my whole chain stays in the Sony family), one that 8.0a did not fix.

I picked up a Sony AVCHD, the m2ts files import fine, audio and all.

    Thanks Steve.

Just after I posted, I searched Sony’s Vegas forum and found a thread that mentioned the .vob trick. I’ve been using the trial version and almost punted on the product. In all other aspects, I like the software and will probably purchase the real deal… Let’s see how my first rendering job turns out.

Thanks again for the fast reply, Steve.

    No problem Kurt –

One other thing I failed to mention once you change the extension – if you choose to import off the project media tab, you’ll need to select “all files” above the default “all media files”. I know, with the multitude of files that Sony recognizes as media files, .vob is not a default import file.

It might save you some time wondering where your .vob’s went.

The mpeg V8 quirkiness aside, it’s a great NLE. Have fun!
