  Connecting Camera for Video Capture

  Hey y’all –

  Good info on here, maybe someone can help me out. We shoot on a Panasonic DVX-100b and cut in Vegas. On our regular editing computer, it’s all groovy, and as a producer, it’s usually no big deal that I live 90 mins from the editing studio.

  However, I’ve been doing a side project, and when I tried to rip my footage to my home computer, I re-remembered I have no firewire port on this ol’ laptop.

  Now, the external hard drive I use does have one, and I tried jacking the camera into it while plugged into the laptop, but when I used the “Capture Video” function, I couldn’t get Vegas to find the camera.

  Any buttons/options I need to enable, other clever ways to do this, etc?

  Sorry but the firewire port needs to be on your computer, not on an external drive.
  Next time you’re in the office, copy all the project files to your external drive and use that when you’re at at home.
  As long as you don’t add any other assets, all you need to bring/send back and forth is the veg (project file).
