Let me try to explain what happen.

I shot this video in 16:9 with my miniDV.
In Vegas I was trying to do the following:
Mask a person and apply video “fx add noise” to the background. So copied and pasted the same video one on top of the other. The upper one with the mask and the lower with the Fx effect. All was fine until I rendered in “Dv ntsc wide screen” which had always worked for me.The result was the upper image was very degraded. So I turned off the mask and all was fine again.Since I had no idea why was that happening so I gave it another try using the avi uncompressed mode and it worked.I would appreciate if someone could elucidate this.Thank you for your attention.

ps.Sorry about my poor English.I dont even know if I made myself understood.

By “Degraded,” do you mean the noise is affecting the lines of the mask? I’d think it would in DV quality.
Can you post a still of the DV vs uncompressed quality so we can get an idea of what you’re referring to?

Sorry about it , if the link was a bit confusing .At the bottom of the page you click on “free” then it takes you to where you can access the page with the pictures.
    Thank you again.

Did you set your render quality to high quality? The default setting is good. If you rendered using the default try selecting custom at render box and change quality setiing from good to best and try another render. Maybe someone else might have other ideas.
But you are very right the uncompressed version is way sharper.
    The DV version is blocky.

    By the way, cool effect.

    Rick,
The quality was already set to best. The enigma is: When I turn off the mask the DV version becomes as sharp as the uncompressed one.
I am glad to hear you have liked the effect and it really gets more interesting when the whole scene is moving.

Thank you very much for your time.
    Best regards from
