How to transfer footages from Sony CX7 to Vegas?
Hi,
I have just got my hands on Sony HDR-CX7. A great camcorder.
But I have problems getting the footage in Vegas 7. I used to work with DV tapes but now, with the whole new recording media, I am confusing as in how do I get the footage into Vegas and do my editing?
Has anyone used CX7 with Vegas? Please guide me as I really cannot find any information on this in the web or official website.

Which version of Vegas 7? Support for Sony AVCHD camcorders was added in Vegas 7.0e.

You’ll want to have a good card reader. Use DuoPro cards; I’m using the 8 gig, FWIW.
Transfer all the media from the “Streams” folder found on the card, to your HDD.
Put Vegas in the 1440 x 1080 HDV mode, since you’re in SIA you’ll want the 50i template.
Vegas *can* edit the media straight from the card, but it’s very painful. Figure roughly half-time for transfer. 12 mins of footage takes slightly less than 6 mins on my 1.83GHz laptop. Yesterday I produced 11 event shorts using this camera and Vegas 7.
Expect LONG render times to MPEG 2SD. A four minute event piece took nearly seven minutes to render.
I had the CX7 in highest quality mode, 12 mins of vid on the 8 gig card.Douglas Spotted Eagle

Hi Edward,
I have downloaded the 7.0e update. I am able to copy the MTS files from my memory stick to my HDD.
However, when I open the MTS files in Vegas and play them, they are very choppy. I have selected the HD 1440×1080(60i) setting in the project. Any idea if it is my hardware that causes the poor performance? I am running Pentium4 HT 2.4 GHz with 1GB memory. Video files are separated from operation system in a separate HDD.

Wonderful to know that you have experienced with CX7 and Vegas.
I was using HD 1080 60i in my project setting. (I bought the CX7 from US, so I assume the recording should be in NTSC.)
I did copy the files (.MTS) to my HDD and play them in Vegas. But they appears choppy like frame drops. I also tried to render to avi using HD 1080 60i. The playback was also choppy.
What did I do wrong here?
My hardware is Pentium 4 HT 2.4 GHz with 1GB memory. I also have video files on a separate HDD from my operating system.

Your system is nowhere near ready to work with AVCHD at full frame rate. AVCHD is a super pig.
Convert those files using Cineform Neo, or at least the Cineform codec that comes with Vegas, or convert them to HDV files before editing.Douglas Spotted Eagle
