Compression question
This may be a dumb question, but somthing i have been wondering about lately, is how a 2+ hr. movie can fit on a single DVD yet when i burn a project i can only fit roughly 80 mins (depending on resolution and other factors of course). Anyway my question is if there is anything out there that will give me the option to compress to where i can fit more on a disk?

If you’re referring to commercial DVDs, it’s because they’re using dual layer discs which, until recently, were not available to us mere mortals 🙂
Now that they are, there’s nothing stopping you (with the exceptions of a burner and authoring software) from burning to that type of media.
Having said that, I’ve done several 2 hr. DVDs in the past few years that have been burned to single layer discs and no one has complained about the quality.
I use a much higher-end 3CCD camera though and that makes a huge difference in the final quality. -
It’s the bitrate used. To fit 2 hours, you have to lower the bitrate. See Vol 1 #7 of my newsletters for a complete explanation and a bitrate chart.
