I have a project that uses several chroma key layers to cast shadows on a stage. I am having issues with some of the shadows. The shadows that are center stage are fine. Shadows that are stage left and stage right appear to have holes in them…they look more like reflections than shadows. I have moved the 2 objects that are casting the odd shadows center stage and they cast fine there, so I dont think it’s a matte issue from the key.

    Any help much appreciated,

Hi Dave. Thanks for the post. I am only using a simple key in Keylight. All 3 “players” are processed the same…I’m not sure why one would render differently than the other 2. I have checked and double checked the keys, reset and started over…I always get the same results.

    Any other ideas?

    Peace,
    Mark

It looks as if you have ‘Light Transmission’ in the material options for the layer turned up. Make sure it is set to 0%

Thanks Jon! That was it!!! I had objects casting shadows only in one comp and foreground objects in another. The shadow casters had light transmission at 100%.
