I’m exporting some RED 2k effects shots from AE and the exported shot are slightly brighter than the original coming in. I’m working with 2K DPX image sequences in 16bit comps and exporting in the render cue using Apple ProRes HQ with 4:4:4 Chroma Filtering option enabled to match the files we’re using in FCP. Someone told me there’s a checkbox somewhere to correct this seeming gamma shift, but they couldn’t remember what the settings were. Anyone have any ideas?

You can do it two ways.

At a user preference level – go to user preferences and under the editing tab, there’s an option to set the gamma of RGB Video / Stills. This will be set for all imports of such files (that use RGB color space).

If you want to do it on a per clip level – then import the clip, open the item properties (cmd+9) and in the window, option+click (right click) on gamma and you can change the setting (if the clip is of the proper format – i.e. a clip w/ pro-res 422 compression will not have this option available since it’s not an RGB codec).
