Why ‘audio out’ jacks on FireWire Audio Interface Units?
I’m a newbie to digital audio recording & want to use Vegas.
I just found the Motu 8pre firewire audio Interface…

8 XLR/TRS “combo jack” mic inputs.Description seems to tells me it also has ‘outputs’ but there are no jacks on it.
1 – Are the ‘output’ jacks on other units used to loop back to amp’s or what?
2 – Are 24 bit 96 kHz converters satisfactory for today -

Without them it wouldn’t be an I/O unit, it would be only I 🙂
In my studio, I have the MOTU 896HD working not only as an input device for Vegas, but it controls the output to the monitors.I don’t think you’ll have any latency problems with firewire-based units.
Today’s standards for what? It’s certainly good enough for professional applications.

Hey Will,
That audiocard is more than sufficient for Pro audio recording. Right now 24-bit 96khz is the highest resoloution for audio, but you certainly don’t need to record at that level. As all CD’s are burnt at 16-bit 44.1khz. If you do decide to record at that high resolution you will need to dither down your end project using Professional Mastering Software like Wavelab or SoundForge, to 16-bit 44.1khz. I use the MOTU 24 1/O, https://www.motu.com/products/pciaudio/24IO/ it too is a FireWire audiocard, and I can easily go down to 0 latency, so you should have no trouble with latency. If you look at the link you provided you will see it has analog outputs on the back of your unit. To connect either to active monitors or to an amp then on to your speakers. Hope this helps.
