Vegas & The ADVC110
Need to capture many VHS tapes in Vegas. I’m probably looking to purchase the Canopus ADVC110 to do the conversion from analog to digital. Has anybody had experience with the unit? I’ve heard good thing and just thought I’d double check.
Unless anyone knows of an easier way to get analog captured. I tried the Pinnacle Dazzle but it could not be recognized…and besides that was a clunky way to do things.Thanks

I’ve used an ADVC 100 at work for a few years now and HIGHLY recommend it. They do what they’re made for and do it very well.

First, stay away from Pinnacle. After they bought out Dazzle, then totally destroyed the program in favor of their own, and sorry I don’t remember the name they used. We all got an email trying to get us to “upgrade” to their own software. NO WAY!
I’ve had the Canopus ADVC100 for years and love it. It does a fantastic job. That’s what I have my external monitor connevted to.
However one suggestion, especially if you have a lot of old VHS tapes to capture. Spend the money and get the next up 300. It’s around $300 at B&H, and also has a TBC (time base corrector) which is an added plus for capturing/restoring older VHS tapes.

I don’t have the advc110 but use a 300. I use it to archive my old tapes too but don’t bring it into Vegas unless I want to do special titles and etc. I have a pioneer dvd recorder with a harddrive and just record to that (frees up computer) and do simple titles and editing and then copy to disc from the hd. Works great!. You might save some money if your camcorder has analog to dv conversion feature and you don’t want to buy a dvd recorder. I have use my old sony D8 camcorder for this and have never had a problem with audio sync issues and etc. when capturing to the computer using Vegas capture.

ADVC 100 since 2003 and use footage in Vegas all of the time. Works great and I use it to output to a TV via firewire.

I have the pioneer dvr-533H. I think it’s been discontinued and replaced by the DVR-640H-S.

I never thought of just runing the old VHS tapes directly to a DVD recorder with a hardware encoder.
Going to need one anyway as I’m getting into legal video work. If I pass the written test May 5th! 😉

The IT folk have just set up a ADVC110 with Sony Vegas so we can digitise old VHS tapes. Unfortunately Sony Vegas isn’t picking up the Canopus as a capture device. Has anyone got a suggestion about where we may have gone wrong?

Yea, You didn’t do anything wrong. You have to use manual capture with the ADVC100 (110).
