How can I add a black border around video?
Hi folks.
Ive been making a short video which I plan to put on DVD for family and friends. The video features mainly old photographs which Ive animated.
What I’ve found in the past is, that when I view such photo videos fullscreen on my widescreen TV, then some of the lower res. photos have tended to become unsharp or even blurred or blocky. To counter this I wondered if it would be a good idea to put a black border around the video so that, when viewed on a TV screen, the images would remain sharper due to a smaller screen size.
What I mean by a black border is – that widescreen effect you get with certain formats when rendering – which creates a black strip top and bottom? Well I’d like the black strip/border to go all around, if pos.

Use pan/crop function to make a box larger than the photo, which will actually shrink the photo. You can then copy and paste attributes to the others, or adjust individually.

But the problem I have is, Ive already completed the video (it just needs rendering now). Hence I’d ideally like to avoid having to pan/crop all those photos and menus etc. Instead, I thought it would be simpler if I could find a way of adding a black border around the video, without chopping off any of the original content of the video.I’m not sure if this is all possible, but I hope so.
Solutions most welcome.

If I understand correctly, you want to insert a black border around all sides of the video. Did you consider looking in Media Generator and using the Rectangular Transparent to Black preset from the Color Gradient plugin? My thought would be to put that preset on the track above the video and adjust the size of the transparent opening and length accordingly. Viola – instant black border.

grasshopper had a good idea. also, you can make a black frame with alpha center png file in photoshop and put it on the top video track.

I’ll try both those options. I had hoped for a quick-fix
solution, i.e. I’d hoped there might be a format option during rendering
which would do the job, but perhaps not.Thanks again.

To get a border, all you need is to use Track Motion to simply shrink the entire track (assuming you don’t want to lose any information which it sounds like is the case).
When dealing with photos, it is vitally important that you use Pan/Crop for your zooming. When zooming in, Pan/Crop uses the full resolution of the image – Track Motion doesn’t.
