Locking together different audio/video tracks
Hi- I am brand new to Sony Vegas. I have a video track which has been edited with different cuts. it originally had audio, which I ungrouped and deleted. I also had an audio track (originally audio plus video) and I deleted the video portion. I have now manually synched the two halves together and want to keep them connected and move the whole unit around as I put together several scenes.
Please help… step by step instructions please… I’m VERY new.

select everything you want to lock together (control A if you want all the footage and audio) and the hit the G button. This will Group all the selction for you.

I want just one section of audio and video. If I hit control A it selects everything I have in the timeline. I’d like to select just a chunk of audio and video I have lined up and lock the synchronization. Possible?

As Don said, select everything you want to lock together. This may involve clicking the first event and then shift-clicking the rest of them, one at a time. Then group them.

Great! Thank you- using ctrl A to select and the G to group, I have linked audio and video. But I do want to seperate chunks…Mike, you say “shift click” …what does that mean?
Once I’ve grouped a video clip with its audio, I want to move just that clip around and find I can’t. What am I missing?
for instance, I’ve got 3 segments on the time line, in order 1, 2, 3 with space in between. Each segment has audio and video that I took from different sources and matched up. Now using ctrl A, then G, I’ve grouped them so the video and audio are linked. What if I want to put them in order 3, 1, 2… with the video still linked to the proper audio? I want them as seperate entities.

Here’s the deal…..
I do this all the time.Hold the CTRL (control) button while you click on all the events you want as a group.
Think of CTRL key as a “AND” key.
IE: This…AND…this…AND….That….. will be (G) grouped
You can now move the groups around freely.Think of SHIFT key as a “THRU” key.
This event….THRU…this event will be grouped.CTRL+A is obviously every damn thing on the plate.
All are equally powerful …just use the right tool for the job is all
If you want to make a small adjustment to a “Group”.
Use the “Ignore event grouping” (CTRL+SHIFT+U) button on the menu bar to temporarily release all grouping. Make adjustment then uncheck button.. and your good to go again.
PS: if that button isnt there..go to OPTIONS/CUSTOMIZE TOOLBAR
and find it, place it.
