Quickie question. Trying to figure recording time of Standard DVD MPEG-2. I’m recording off TV to my laptop onto an 80GB external HD. The recorder has a hardware MPEG-1/2 encoder so my recording is MPEG-2 for putting on DVD.

I thought I read somewhere that MPEG-2 was about 9.x gb/hr. Am I in the ball park?
    thanks

It’s not fixed. It depends on the bit rate.

    I thought so. Thanks Gary.

Anyway it all fit. 4h 30m on an 80gb HD. Didn’t take up much room at all.

Never worked with a hardware MPEG encoder before. It’s from my new PVR connected to my laptop for recording video from TV and my satellite dish.

I recorded the Chinese New Year Special on CCTV 4 (China TV) off our Chinese satellite this morning. That’s probably going to be 3 DVD’s 😉
