I have a ton of archived audio cassettes from way back which I have to digitize for a client.
They found my estimate to do this cost prohibitive. Then I came up with a way to slice the price in half. Playback the cassettes at double speed. This effectively cuts the time in half.
My question is, how would I be able to playback these double-speed files in Vegas at a later time and be able to create cd’s? If I import them, at present, I can use the “gold triangle” and choose 0.5 and they playback perfectly. But, to burn a cd, I would first have to playback in real time and record a new file which would be at the correct speed. This would defeat the initial gain made and take far too long.
I do hope I’ve made myself clear.

OR is there another software out there which may be a better solution?

    Thanks.

right-click the audio file, choose “Properties”, change the “Playback rate” to .5, and then resize the event to match the new speed (i.e. make it twice as long). You may also need to tell it to allow changing the pitch to match the new speed instead of keeping the faster pitch.

I’m not sold that you’ll get the same quality of a double speed playback cut to half speed as you would get recording straight at single speed.

    Edward,
    Thanks ! This works !!
You are such a resource on this site.
Regards quality, these are cassettes recorded as far back as 1974 so there quality is not great to begin with. Put it this way, I’m sure the client will be happy to sacrifice a little quality if it will save them more than a thousand dollars !
