New higher-res iPod video & Flash video export from Vegas?
I was just wondering if any of you insiders know if the Sony Media Software guys have any plans to implement exporting of the new higher-res (640x___) h.264 iPod videos? They added the original-res iPod video support to Vegas 6 in an update, any signs of them doing this for the new resolutions? I’ve submitted this idea to them, but they don’t reply to those things.
Also, I was wondering if there were any rumors about Flash video export? With it’s popularity, you’d think they’d implement it to improve workflow. We could just export stuff we want to show on the web directly to FLV.

Can’t you just edit the present and change the frame size from 320×240 to 640×480? That preset is actually already in there. I don’t have an ipod capable of that to test it, but that should be all you need to do. Then just save the new preset with 640×480. If that isn’t the exact dimensions it does still allow custom res as well.
Flash output, no idea if they are going to do it. It would be nice to export it straight out instead of having to bring it back into sorenson or flash video encoder.
I’m actually really suprised there isn’t Blu-ray support. Vegas and DVD Architect should have been the first to support it.

No you can’t just up the current iPod preset to a higher resolution. Apple set it up so that you have to write certain data into specific parts of the file, or iTunes won’t synch it to the iPod even if it is otherwise very compatible. https://www.ffmpegx.com and one other (for the mac) software are the only video converters that I know of that currently do this (other than Apple’s own software). As far as I know no Windows software currently released is capable of exporting iPod high-res compatible video. Though I’ve heard the Nero Recode is supposed to have an update coming soon that will do it. Sony would be smart to jump on it now and beat everyone to the punch.

Well that is pretty much bullshit on apples part. Just another reason why I’ll never own an ipod.

Yeah it is kinda dumb. However, I still think they’re by far the best MP3/video player out there. I love mine and won’t part with it anytime soon.
Anyway, does anyone have any info on my original questions?
