    Hello COW members,
    I’m trying to crunch some numbers but my results seem a little weird to me. Hopefully you guys can double check my work.

    I’m trying to figure out how much space (in GB) DV would take up for 1 minute of video at different frame rates. So..
    DV = 25Mbps (I’m referencing the handy dandy table on pg 54 of the May 2006 issue of Creative COW magazine)
    1 Mb = 0.000122070312 GB (according to Google) but for the sake of simplicity we will say 0.000122.

    Now DV = (25*0.000122) = .00305 GB per second.
    Now would it be safe to say…
    1 second of DV footage at 30fps = (.00305GBps/30)= 1.016*10^-4 (a really small number)
    1 second of DV footage at 15fps = (.00305GBps/15)= 2.033*10^-4

    So now we have the GB per frame.
    1 minute of footage at 30fps = 1800 frames
    1 minute of footage at 15fps = 900 frames

    Therefore…

    If I had 1 minute of footage at 30fps that would be 0.183 GB
    If I had 1 minute of footage at 15fps that would be 0.0915 GB

    I know it is a little silly to convert it all the way down to fps but I am working on a little calculator and it will come in handy to determine how many GB a couple frames might be. So I hope my calculations are correct because my code is being buggy by displaying the same amount of space for the same amount of time but with different frame rates. Thanks for any help.

    Just what is it that you are trying to accomplish?

    A DV AVI file is 13.8 Gb/hour. The disk requirements don’t change with different shooting modes because the AVI compression in the camera puts out DV at 13.8 Gb per hour.

    So what am I missing in your question?
