  Ram Preview Woes

  Hi, I have searched for this problem on the forums and although there are similar ram preview woes I could find any the same.

  When I ram preview all goes fine, it ticks along the green line nicely and plays back without problem, however once I’ve previewed it and clicked it stop it and return to work, the project freezes up for 5-10 seconds each time. This has only started happening the last couple of days but I’ve checked for space on the HD etc…. am I needing some form of routine maintenance?

  No, most graphical assets created within AE. Some are photoshop files which are quite large…. but not massive.

  I have reinstalled AE now and it seems to have helped….

  Ok Dave thanks again for the advice. I’m going to have to start giving you a percentage of my wage!

  a few thing you might try prior to doing a reinstall…

  try rebuilding the preference file by holding ctrl+alt+shift (pc) or option+command+shift (mac) when opening after effects, then click ok to recreate the preference file.

  you could also remove the entire preference folder… on a mac it’s in users>username>library>preferences>adobe>after effects, it will be the folder with the version number (like ‘8.0’). just move the whole folder to the desktop and restart ae. this will rebuild all files within the folder.

  and of course it’s usually worth while to try a reboot once and while when ae is acting up…

  these can often help avoid a reinstall.
