  • Why lie about render times?

I was rendering a file – avi 1440 X 1080 – and the machine said 9 min left. A few minutes later is still said 9. I watched it countdown and then jump back up. I might expect this in the beginning but the file had already been rendering 10 min. What gives?

My theory on this is that Vegas initially bases render times on no FX at all. The moment it sees an efect of any kind, it recalculates times based on that effect. Obviously a dissolve will happpen much quicker than a 4 track PIP or similar effect. My current project is only 8 minutes but, due to all the effects in it, took almost an hour to render. Render estimates kept jumping from 30 min. to 2 hr.
I just accept that a render will take some time and go do some paperwork 🙂

I’m sure you are right. I’m just tired of long renders. Mine are go to bed and wait half the next day.

The only real solution to long renders is to upgrade your processor/computer. Your profile says you’re running a 2.8 GHz machine. Upgrading to (almost) the latest and greatest processor would cut your render times by more than half, if not more.

    The 2.8 is my old computer. I’m using two dual core AMDs – a 3800 X 2 and a 4600 X 2.
