Ed or one you other Vegas compositing experts help me here. I have never really got my head around the compositing/parent/child thing in combination with the track pan/crop possibilities in Vegas as I have never had the need to do anything that required these advanced capabilities that Vegas seems to offer.

What I need to do is the following. Imagine one track is a picture of a wall (it’s a 3k x 3k png image). On this wall are a number of pictures. I want to be able to pan from one picture to another, all on different tracks, vertically, diagonally, horizontally and various angles in between. How can I lock the resized pictures to move in concert with the pan and crop movements of my wall track. What is the best way to achieve this, is it a combination of track motion and pan/crop or just one of these and is it achieved by using the parent child track tools? Any help would be much appreciated.

I think it would be easier to make one HUGE image containing all the other images already in place and just pan around that one image.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry Ed, I wasn’t clear enough in my first post. This I can do no problems with still images. In fact that is what I did, make a 3k x 3k template in photoshop. This had the positions for pictures as blank rectangles. The problem is that the pictures on the wall are supposed to be moving video and this is what I am having trouble with. Getting these to move in lock step with the pans, tilts and moves on the 3k wall background. The picure pan speeds and moves aren’t in sync with the moves on the 3k track even though I am using exactly the same keyframe times. Just can’t quite get it right. Using the same smoothness settings etc, etc. Very close but not quite there!

Chris, do a google search on vegas filmstrip tutorial.
The first few sites that should come up have some good tutorials on how to do this.

Thanks for that Mike, have had a good Google on the subject, know a bit more now! Might have it licked after busting my brain getting my head around the parent/child thing. It’s working well. The trick was to make up a 3k grid for the base track, the wall in other words, and track all my upper track moves to that, save the pan/crop moves on the base track and then right click my ‘wall’ pic and drop it over the grid as a ‘take’. Taking some time time though but so far it’s on the pixel so to speak.

    Glad it helped Chris.
Maybe I should take my own advice as that’s a feature that I’m definitely lacking skills/knowledge in 🙁
