I am using DVD Architect 3 to make 2 hour DVDs. Up until now, I have not had any problems putting 2 hour .mpg files into DVD Architect and making 4.7GB DVDs. However, when I tried to put a .mpg file that was 1hour 58minutes of video into an existing DVD Architect project, the project would no longer fit on a 4.7 DVD.

The file was 3.81 GB. The existing project was only 176.6MB.
When I inserted the media in the project the ‘Disk Space Used’ changed to 5.8GB, and the DVDA project recognized the file to be 5598.3MB (under the Optimize DVD menu).

I can understand how the file might increase in size a little, but not 1.7GB.

I opened a new and blank project and inserted the mpg file, and the DVDA project recognized the file to be 4380.1 MB (around 4.28GB). The ‘Disk Space Used’ was 4.4GB. It increased about 1GB; I can understand this.

This doesn’t make sense to me. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Why is the video file size smaller in a blank and empty project, and bigger in an existing project? Where is are the extra Megabytes coming from?

    Thanks for any help,

    Michael M.

DVDA3 does show some funky file size readouts sometimes.

The thing you have to realize is that you can actually only write 4.3 Gigs on to a “4.7 Gig” disc.
