  • Vegas crashes while rendering a session containing embedded sessions

Posted by Josh Meredith on April 2, 2006 at 3:30 pm

I am trying to render a 30 minute project, which consists of 10 seperate sessions embedded within a single session.

When the render gets to 2%, an error pops up, and when I click “OK”, Vegas crashes to the desktop.

With Vegas 6.0, we’re able to put session files (.veg) into the timeline. Shouldn’t we be able to render a session in which there are embedded session files? If not, what use is this feature?

This is the first stability issue I’ve had with Vegas since I started using version 5 a couple years ago.

Are you using the latest build of Vegas (6.0d)?
This crashing was an issue for a few folks if the imported vegs had markers in them but it was supposedly fixed in 6.0d (or was it 6.0c?).
Another solution (I arrived at this after several emails to Sony tech support) is to increase the number of render threads. I originally had it set to one and a change to 2 or more fixed it. Don’t ask me why as I have no idea. It just worked and that’s all I cared about 🙂

    I’m using 6.0d

When you say “markers” do you mean chapter markers? Because what I did was import a bunch of vegs into the timeline, and then I inserted chapter points at the beginning of each veg. None of the individual vegs had chapter markers, though.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll check to see how many threads I have enabled, but I’m pretty sure I set it up for 2 when I installed 6.0

Yes, chapter markers is what I meant although apparently markers of any type caused the problem for some folks.
Yo could try upping the thread count even more to see if that helps.
If it doesn’t then I’m out of ideas and it’s time to send a copy of the exception report to Sony. It’ll take them a while (up to a week) to get back to you but they will.

Using 6.0c I just finished a project about 60min long consisting of 13 embedded .veg on the time line. Added transitions between them, added markers (regions I believe) at the beginning of each and rendered as mpeg2 and AC3 and imported into DVD and used the markers for chapters in a menu. Worked great. So it does work, at least with”c”. Have been afraid to upgrade to “d” with all the things I have heard and “c” seems to be working great.
Only problem was when I tried to “save as” alomng with trimmed media to save as a back up in case I needed to go back to the project later, Vegas did not save the media that was imbedded in the .vegs.
