Split Event issue in 6.0d
When I use the “split event” function I lose video frames following the split point as if they’ve been trimmed. Sometimes a lot, sometimes just a few. For some reason it gets worse the further down the time-line I go. I’ve used this function quite a bit in the past with no problem. I recently updated from 6.0c to 6.0d for no special reason – do you think this could be causing the problem?

Whoops – too late at night I guess. The answer to my own question is that I have velocity-envelopes open on those events so that when I use Split Event, it rubber-bands to its original [faster]speed, so it looks like I’ve lost frames.

If you’ve used a Velocity Envelope and you split a clip, it will split as if the velocity envelope had never been applied. I’ve reported this in the past but it still splits incorrectly in that case. That’s one reason why I use the CTRL-Resize method most (plus it’s quicker to just hold down CTRL and resize the clip). I only use the velocity envelope if I need multiple speed changes or go below 25% (i.e. to freeze frame)

Hi,
Speaking of the CTL/Resize method, is there a way to have a little box appear to show the playback speed of the clip as you drag left/right? Similar to how that little window appears when you overlap two clips — it tells you how much time the overlap is…

Edward – thanks for your tip. I tried the Control-Resize move and see that it does show the velocity percentage in a little box as you drag. You’re right – this way’s a lot easier. Thanks

George – there is a little box that shows you this: make sure you have the “Active Take Information” checked on the View menu from the menu bar.

Beyond that, you also have to have the associated AUDIO because the percentage shows on the audio event. Otherwise, manually set the playback rate (which also requires you to manually resize the event) or use a script like Excalibur which will set the playback rate to a specific value AND resize the clip appropriately.

aha! I did not have that “Active Take” option selected. Now I see it shows the speed percentage!
