    Hey Everyone,

    first off thanks for your time for answering my question. im not sure exactly whats going on with my after effects program. here is my problem

    “my 3d lights are not interacting with my 3d layers” .. for example, I will have a grey texture in 3d space in my comp. I will move it back say 500 in z space. I then create a “orange” light in 3d space. my problem im having is my light is not interacting what so ever with my 3d layer. I went under my texture layer setting’s to check all of them to see if it would except lights. etc. light transmission. all of it I went through each setting and no matter what I did. I couldnt get my light to interact.

    so I reinstalled after effects. I mean I used the “script” adobe gives out to completely remove ALL adobe software. did that. reinstalled everything. and STILL have the same problem (I guess somehow my setting where saved?)

    anyways. HELP would be AMAZING.

    CHEERS!

    Do you mean that the layer looks the same as it did before you added any lights to the comp (grey texture)? How are you generating the texture?

    what happens is. as soon as I make the layer 3D and there is a 3D light already in my scene. the layer just turns black. in no way does it interact with the light. it just turns my layer black as if the light was not in the scene at all or as if the light was a black color.

    Is it a spot light? Have you used the top and side views to make sure that the light as actually pointing at the layer?

    i’ve tried. spots. points. ambients. all with white color, orange tints, red tints, blue tints. i’ve moved the light in 3d space all around the layer. I just cant figure this one out. i’ve looked at all the settings I believe. i’ve turned off open gl, turn it on. turned on adaptive resolution only. turned on mixed. I mean i’ve tried everything in the book.

    as far as my 3d scene goes. the light SHOULD be displaying on the layer. but its not. it just turns it black as if the light wasnt working. i’ve also tested the intensity levels. from 100% to 1000%. 🙁

    just completely stumped.

    Has it ever worked on that machine, that version of AE, that project? Or is this first time you’ve tried it?

    @dave

    to answer all your questions. all im doing now is creating a solid white layer. making it 3d. pushing it back into my 3d scene. creating an orange tinted light. and still the same problem. there is only two layers in my comp. the solid and the light. thats all.

    open gl is enabled. and I also tried it disabled.

    oh oh. and yes. it has worked before. i’ve been able to get lights to work perfectly. this just started happening the last couple of weeks. so i’ve worked around it till now. cause now I need the lights.

    Hi Tim

    Did you resolve this lights problem at all. Because I have the same problem. I have to import lights from old projects when the lights did work but if I try to add new lights they just dont work.

    Cheers
