OK, we will be doing real time capturing from 5 or 6 cams at once.

We have considered the FiresStore FS-400 and also the ADS Pyro DV Drive.

We are also considering just doing live capture to 5 or 6 different computers… as this is in a studio environment.

1 – Is there a difference in “capture software” in terms of the video quality?

We use Vegas for editing but must we buy a copy of Vegas for every PC that is going to capture live video… or are their lower cost software alternatives for doing real time capture?

2 – A local studio does real time capture to Mini-Mac’s… is there a PC equavelant to the Mini-Mac? And, if so what?

    thanks for any help.

As long as you’re talking DV, “capture” is a misnomer – it’s really more like a file COPY so you’ll see no difference between various programs capturing DV via firewire.

You might want to take a look as Scenalyzer Live

I use Scenalyzer to capture into a laptop when I do some theater work. I can get several hours on one file, but I tend to hit the “split” button every major breaking point in the program.

You also can’t beat the price.
